Reclassifying Projects using CRIS Web Forms
The new AD-417 Classification system was implemented February 1, 1999, and
all previously existing projects in CRIS must be reclassified using the
new codes. Funding reports for Congress and research administrators are
based on this classification. In order to summarize funding in each
area of research correctly,
projects must be reclassified appropriately according to the new Manual of Classification of Forestry
and Agricultural Research.
Select "Using CRIS Web Forms" from the CRIS Forms Assistance homepage:
http://ctr.uvm.edu/cris/
We suggest that you turn on Tutorial Mode before selecting
a form. You must be using a Web
browser that supports frames (Netscape 3.x or MS Internet Explorer 3.x or
higher versions) in order to use tutorial mode.
Tutorial mode will allow you to view the old AD-417 Classification in one frame and work in the
reclassification Web forms in another (side by side for comparison).
(If you don't have a browser that supports frames, you can easily do
the reclassification without using frames.)
Select "Reclassification"
Enter your site name and password. Enter the Principal Investigator Last Name and
Proceed.
Select a project and "New AD-417 Classification form" and Proceed.
If you are not familiar with this research, you may need to View/Print the AD-416
information. Tutorial mode will display this link; the
AD-416,
in the right-hand frame. You may also print a copy of the AD-416 by clicking in this frame
and
print from your browser.
View/Print the old AD-417 information. Tutorial mode will display this link; the
old
AD-417,
in the right-hand frame. You may also print a copy of the old AD-417 by clicking in this frame
and
print from your browser.
Reclassify the project.
Enter the Classification by Research Problem Area (RPA), Subject of Investigation,
and Field of Science:
- Option 1.
Select the Try Crosswalk button first to display a list of
suggested
classification codes for each category. New classification codes that appear to match or
closely correlate with the old classification codes will be listed.
- Most multi-line classifications will need to be more narrowly defined from the first
crosswalk attempt. A list will be displayed of all suggested crosswalk codes. If the codes listed
can be used to correctly reclassify the project, check the codes that best define the
project.
You must select a code in each of the 3 categories and Generate the Table to show all
possible
combinations using the selected crosswalk codes. If the codes you selected generate too many
combinations to display, use your BACK button to return to the previous screen. Un-check some
of the codes and regenerate the table.
Enter percent of effort per line of
appropriate classification; maximum of 10 lines, minimum of 10% per line, maximum of 100%.
Save information.
- If the lines of code saved = 100% and is an accurate classification of the project, the
classification is complete.
- If the lines of code saved are less than 100%, use the Return button and continue
with the AD-417 form. Complete the classification using Classification
Assistance or manually enter codes into the classification table to complete the
classification (Options 2. and 3. below).
- Option 2.
If the codes displayed are not close enough to be helpful, and you prefer to
ignore the
crosswalk attempt, use your browser's BACK button and enter Classification Assistance
to view and select from all possible codes. You will need to check appropriate code(s) in each
category and
Generate the Table of possible combinations. Enter percent of effort per line of
appropriate classification; maximum of 10 lines, minimum of 10% per line, maximum of 100%.
Save information when complete.
- If the lines of code saved = 100% and is an accurate classification of the project, the
classification is complete.
- If the lines of code saved are less than 100% you have not completed the classification. The
percent of effort per line of code can be edited to equal 100%. Use your BACK button and
adjust the percents per line of code to total 100%. If additional lines of code are
needed, re-enter Classification Assistance and assign a percent of effort to more lines
of code that will equal 100%. You may also manually enter additional codes into the
classification table and assign percent of effort per line that will total 100% (Option 3.).
- Option 3.
If you prefer to manually enter the classification codes, use your browser's
BACK
button to
return
to an empty AD-417 form. Enter the classification codes:
- Use the column heading links to view the list of options and enter
the appropriate numeric codes in the table. You may find it helpful
to print a blank form
to jot down your choices. Enter percent of effort per line
of
appropriate classification; maximum of 10 lines, minimum of 10% per line, total must = 100%.
Check data and Save information when complete.
NOTE: If you are using tutorial mode, the column heading links will display
the code lists in the right-hand frame, allowing you to view the code lists
while you enter codes in the form. You can even copy and paste codes from
the lists into the form.
- Using a printed manual,
determine which options apply to this
project and enter the numeric codes in the table. Enter percent of effort per line
of
appropriate classification; maximum of 10 lines, minimum of 10% per line, total must = 100%.
Check data and Save information when complete.
The Confirmation Screen will be displayed when you have completed the
reclassification. You may print this for your records. Use the Return to: [Select
Project]
button to reclassify another project or enter the AD-416 Research Resume New
Information if you were instructed to enter this additional data.
Enter AD-416 Research Resume New Information
From the Project Selection page, the project you reclassified will be marked and select
AD--416 Research Resume New Information if you were instructed to do so, and
Proceed.
- New AD-416 Research Resume Information:
- Enter a non-technical description of the project. Use 2 or 3 full sentences; limit 400
characters.
