Browser Reports
These Browsers have been tested and seem to work well with the CRIS Web
Forms.
These browsers also work in the CRIS Tutorial mode using frames:
- Netscape Navigator/Communicator 4.7
- Netscape Navigator/Communicator 4.01 or newer (note exceptions below for 4.01, 4.04, 4.05)
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0
- Netscape Navigator 3.0 and 3.0 Gold
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 for Windows95
These Browsers do NOT work with the Web Forms:
- Netscape version 3.01 Macintosh
This Macintosh version displays check boxes and buttons on your screen, but does not print the
check boxes or
any information that is entered in a check box. This browser can not be used by
any CRIS Web Forms site contacts because the printed 662 form from this browser version
(required to be signed and filed at each site) is missing information.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and 3.01
This browser can not be used by any site contacts. This version closes up all white
space and
can't be used to print the required AD-416/417/662 forms.
- Windows 3.1 Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and Windows 3.1 AOL Internet
Explorer browsers.
These Windows 3.1 version of browsers may truncate text entered in the web forms. Viewing
the saved
information will verify that the data is not complete. You will need to use a browser from
another operating system (i.e. Windows95 or Windows NT) as listed above.
- Netscape ver 1.1
This version or lower does not work at all.
- Netscape ver 1.22
This version allows you to enter your site's web forms and
enter text, but does not pass the "submit for checking" or "submit to site" points. The
web form reports will not be submitted to your site using this browser version.
These Browsers work, but we're experiencing differences in how they work:
- Netscape 6
This version does not print frames correctly.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and Macintosh Netscape Communicator 4.05
These versions insert extra blank lines between publication citations upon editing the AD-421 web form.
The extra lines must be deleted to pass the "data checking" and "save" functions in the Web forms.
- Netscape Communicator 4.01 and Netscape Communicator 4.05
These versions do not display characters in the initial fields of the web forms. The cursor will
tab or click into the initial field, but the typed character does not display on the screen. If you
proceed to the "data checking" you will see that the initial typed in the field was added. This is
very confusing to the user. This is a reoccuring bug in
Netscape, but Netscape Communicator 4.04 allows you to type in initials and appears to
be the best choice of Communicator 4.0 versions to use with the web forms.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and ver 3.01
Does not prompt you to SAVE
a file that you want to download, but instead automatically opens the file. You need
to save it using FILE on the menu bar then SAVE.
Current versions of internet browsers are available free of charge. You can download a copy of
Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer from their homepages.
Many universities also offer copies of a preferred (and often supported) WWW network
navigator/browser. Check with your campus computing support department for availability.
Please notify Sue Lang, slang@zoo.uvm.edu if you encounter other
problems with
different browsers or versions using the CRIS Web Forms. Your feedback is
appreciated!
